Affordable Gaming Laptop: The Acer S3 13.3″ Ultrabook Review

One affordable gaming laptop that we finally got a  chance to get our hands on is theS3 13.3″ Ultrabook and we were pleasantly surprised. This laptop has a few things going for it and actually has a place for gaming despite the weak processor and graphics technology. For those looking for a well built, thin portable laptop with good battery life specifically to run last generation games, this laptop should seriously be considered.

  • Intel Core i3-2367M processor
  • Intel HD Graphics 3000
  • 4GB DDR3 SDRAM system memory.
  • 320GB SATA hard drive
  • 20GB SSD Hard Drive
  • 13.3-Inch 1366 x 768
  • USB 3.0 ports,
  • Battery life up to 6 hours;
  • Weight 3 lbs, just 0.7″ thin. Color: Silver

  • The laptop is built phenomenally well and looks very good. The design itself is top notch and very good looking in general.

  • At only 3 pounds, the laptop is extremely portable and light weight.

  • Display technology in the laptop is top notch.

  • One of the best priced affordable gaming laptop in the market
  • Battery life in the acer laptop is amazing. We were able to get just under 6 hours with this laptops.

  • The 20gb of ssd storage is a big plus and an awsome feature when it comes to gaming.

  • The intel i3 processor is not the greatest and does not perform as good as the i5-5200U found in some of the other budget laptop alternatives.

  • The integrated Intel HD 3000 graphics technology  found inside this laptop is not built for gaming

  • Only 4gb of ram is inside this laptop which is not very much when looking at the other gaming laptops under the $500 mark.

  • Gaming performance is not very good. You might be able to run current generation games at the lowest possible settings which is still unlikely.

Bottom Line

Although the laptop’s specification are not the greatest, this laptop makes up for it in the build quality, screen quality, its featured SSD storage, sound quality and keyboard. However, the processor and integrated graphics technology is not very good for gaming and at 4gb, the ram storage is lacking. That said, this laptop has a good price to performance ratio and a solid purchase for those seeking an affordable gaming laptop that is portable and well-built. With correct optimization and setting tweaking, expect to run last generation games around the low to medium mark.
